About AMIPS

WELCOME:
Hello, and welcome sail and power boaters to Anna Maria Island Power Squadron. We are located on the West Coast of Florida just south of Tampa Bay. We have been serving Bradenton and Manatee County since 1958. Please explore our site designed to provide information about our Squadron, boating education and useful nautical links.

Anna Maria Island Power Squadron is a division of United States Power Squadrons. USPS has over 450 Squadrons with approximately 60,000 members. We are one of the 19 Squadrons located in District 22 that cover western Florida. We currently have over 90 members comprised of sail and power boaters.

The primary mission of AMIPS is education. Even though we are 50 years old we continue to update our instructional methods, most recently with computer enhanced presentations using digital computer graphics and text and we give classes in our own facility. We offer a basic boating safety course (Boatsmart) that is open to the public. See the schedule. This course qualifies you to join the squadron and can also provide a boat insurance discount from many insurance companies. See how to join.

Members then can continue on with courses in Seamanship, Piloting Advanced Piloting, Jr. Navigation and Navigation. Electives are also offered in many subjects such as Sail and Marine Electronics.

Monthly membership meetings with speakers on nautical subjects, luncheons, cruises, occasional raft-ups and dinner dances offer a wide choice of events to socialize with others who enjoy boating as much as you.

Thanks for visiting us and I hope you find this site useful.
